Dancing

At Starburst Theatre Academy, we focus on developing strong dance technique, building the foundations for strength and flexibility. By nurturing performance skills, this encourages individual musicality and artistry. Our aim is to help every dancer move with confidence, expression and precision while developing their own unique style.

Through all three age groups, our focus is on five key pillars at multiple levels. As students develop, the complexity of each pillar increases, ensuring they are consistently gaining confidence to perform through dance.

Flexibility
Developing flexibility safely and progressively, supporting movement, technique and confidence as dancers grow.
Strength
Building strength, control and stability to support a strong core.
Technique
Developing a strong technical foundation, encouraging good habits, body awareness and progression across all areas of dance.
Performance
Building confidence through dance, developing musicality, expression and the ability to perform with enjoyment and individuality.
Artistry
Encouraging creativity, expression and personal style, helping dancers discover confidence in how they move and perform.

Acting

At STA we have created a fun environment for students to develop their acting skillset. Main initiatives include developing acting technique, confidence and creativity through character, storytelling and performance. Students are encouraged to explore different ways of communicating, respond to the world around them and grow in confidence as performers.

Through all three age groups, our focus is on five key pillars at multiple levels. Being a theatre company, we instil the importance of acting within an ensemble and being part of the wider company.

Acting Technique
Developing the foundations of acting through expression, physicality, body language, techniques from theatre practitioners, movement, voice and characterisation.
Character & Emotion
Exploring character and emotion, building confidence in responding to different situations and bringing authenticity and depth to performance.
Voice & Text
Developing confidence with scripts, line learning, accents and vocal expression, progressing towards more advanced text, including monologues and duologues.
Improvisation & Devising
Encouraging creativity and spontaneity through improvisation, drama games and devising, allowing students to explore ideas and create original work.
Performance
Building confidence to perform for an audience, developing active listening, natural responses and the ability to combine acting with song and musical theatre performance.

Singing

Our aim for students at STA is building confident and expressive singers through vocal technique, musicality and performance. Students develop their voice while learning to connect singing with character, emotion and storytelling, bringing songs to life as performers.

Through all three age groups, our focus is on five key pillars at multiple levels.

Vocal Technique
Developing a strong, healthy and confident voice through breath, vocal placement, pitch, range and an understanding of how the voice works.
Harmony & Musicality
Developing the ability to listen, blend and sing as part of an ensemble, progressing with age into more complex two- and three-part harmonies and increasingly independent vocal lines.
Acting Through Song
Bringing together singing and acting to communicate character, emotion and story. Students develop expression, interpretation and performance skills, learning to make each song part of the wider theatrical performance.
Accents & Character
Exploring accents and vocal character alongside acting technique, combining voice, pronunciation, physicality and characterisation to create authentic and engaging performances.
Solo & Ensemble Performance
Building confidence as both ensemble and solo performers, developing the skills to perform independently and as part of a group, with opportunities to showcase individual voices and performance styles.
