Making a Real Difference

Every child we support has a unique story. Here are just a few examples of how funding from the Starburst Applications Division has helped local families access essential equipment and resources.

Evan

Assistive Puppy

Autism, ADHD, SEN

We funded an Assistive Puppy for Evan who has autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, low muscle tone, moderate learning difficulties and global development delay. The dog (who Evan has named Cooper) is being trained (Please note Starburst has not funded the training) to specifically support Evan to help calm him and aide him in his independence. Once fully trained, Cooper will respond to Evan’s repetitive behaviours and ticks, give comfort when anxious and help build Evan’s confidence and focus.

Harry

Specialist Trike

Cerebral Palsy

We funded a specialist Trike for a Harry who has Cerebal Palsy and has no use of his right arm or hand, autistic spectrum disorder, epilepsy and moderate learning difficulties. The Trike not only helps with Harry's physio, to strengthen his right leg, but also means that he can join in cycling activities and have fun with his friends and family.

Teddy

Car Seat

Two rare genetic conditions

We bought a specialist Car Seat for Teddy who has two rare genetic conditions affecting his mobility. One affects some of his muscles, causing weakness and tightening in his legs and the other is a genetic condition resulting in severe learning difficulties including being non-verbal.We funded a car seat to provide full bodily support and security. The base swivels enabling ease of access and reduction in discomfort for both him and his parents.

Finley

Wheelchair

Brain Damage and Crebral Palsy

Finley has brain damage and Cerebral Palsy. He uses his wheelchair at school in the afternoons and on school and family trips out as his legs start hurting and he becomes unable to walk. We funded a new lightweight wheelchair enabling Finley to have continued independence at school and out with family and friends.
